When people hear the words weight loss, they often think about diets, calories, or the latest fitness trend.
At this week’s Coffee and Business (CAB), guest speaker Kathy Workman encouraged everyone to think much deeper than that.

Her message wasn’t about chasing a number on the scale—it was about understanding what is happening inside the body and why so many Americans are struggling with chronic health conditions.
Looking Beyond the Symptoms
Kathy shared that after spending more than a decade helping people lose weight, she realized obesity was often just one symptom of a much larger issue.
“The real problem,” she explained, “is metabolic health.”
She noted that many conditions people commonly deal with—including Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, inflammation, high cholesterol, heart disease, chronic fatigue, skin conditions, hormonal disorders, and even some neurological concerns—can often be traced back to insulin resistance and poor metabolic function.
Rather than simply treating symptoms one at a time, Kathy encouraged attendees to ask a different question:
“What is the root cause?”
Understanding Metabolic Health
One of the biggest takeaways from Kathy’s presentation was helping people understand what metabolism actually means.
Metabolism is simply how the body converts food into energy.
When we continually fuel our bodies with highly processed foods and excess sugar, the body’s natural systems become overwhelmed. Over time, insulin has to work harder, cells become resistant, and energy can no longer move efficiently throughout the body.
According to Kathy, many people can experience insulin resistance for years before standard blood work ever shows obvious warning signs.
Some common indicators include:
- Constant cravings
- Afternoon energy crashes
- Brain fog
- Increased belly fat
- High blood pressure
- Inflammation
- Elevated cholesterol
- Skin tags
- Fatigue
Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference
Rather than promoting extreme diets, Kathy emphasized learning how food affects the body.

She discussed:
- Reducing processed sugars
- Increasing healthy fiber
- Giving the body time between meals to regulate insulin
- Supporting gut health
- Making informed nutritional choices instead of simply counting calories
Her philosophy was simple:
“When you understand what’s happening inside your body, you can begin making better decisions.”
Introducing the Unicity System
Kathy also introduced attendees to the Unicity nutritional system, which she personally uses in her coaching and education.
She explained how the products are designed to:
- Help regulate blood sugar spikes
- Increase healthy fiber intake
- Support gut health
- Reduce cravings
- Promote steady energy
- Encourage long-term metabolic health
Rather than presenting it as a quick fix, Kathy emphasized that these products are tools that work alongside healthier lifestyle choices.
Real Experiences from CAB Members
Several CAB members shared their own experiences after trying the products.
One participant explained that while they weren’t looking for another diet, they noticed fewer cravings, more consistent energy, and found it easier to avoid constant snacking.
Another member commented that although they still enjoyed their favorite foods, the urge to snack throughout the day had noticeably decreased.
For Kathy, those everyday victories are exactly what she hopes people experience.
Education Before Sales
One aspect that resonated with the group was Kathy’s approach to helping others.

She repeatedly emphasized that her goal isn’t to pressure anyone into buying products.
Instead, she believes education comes first.
“If you know better,” she shared, “you can do better.”
That philosophy has also led Kathy to begin hosting regular educational wellness classes in the community while partnering with other local businesses that share a passion for improving quality of life.
Another Example of CAB Connections
Beyond the health discussion, Kathy also shared another reminder of why Coffee and Business exists.
A connection she made through CAB recently led to a new partnership with another local business owner, allowing them to combine wellness education with other community-focused events.
It’s another example of what happens when people consistently show up, build relationships, and look for ways to serve each other.
Relationships Before Transactions
Sometimes those opportunities are new clients.

Each Wednesday, Coffee and Business brings together entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, professionals, and community members who believe relationships create opportunities.
Sometimes they’re collaborations.
Sometimes they’re simply learning something that can improve your health, your business, or your life.
This week, Kathy Workman’s presentation reminded everyone that investing in yourself may be one of the most important investments you’ll ever make.
Join us every Wednesday from 9:30–10:30 a.m. at Little Light Coffee Co. & Mini Donuts, 512 Central Avenue in Great Falls.
Whether you’re looking to grow your business, build meaningful relationships, or simply learn something new each week, there’s always a seat waiting for you.
